Today Melissa, Caden, Katherine and I started our vacation.

We got up extra early and finished packing and then we were off to the airport. Our neighbor was kind enough to drive us to the airport. It was the first time for Katherine to ever be on an airplane and the first time that Caden can remember being on an airplane (he went when he was 1 to Toronto). The kids were super excited for the trip - translation: they were crazy and would not calm down. The night before we had an activity where we pretended the living room was the airplane. We went through all of the rules of being on the airplane (don't kick the seat in front of you, no screaming, no crying, no talking loud, etc.). Our first flight was from SLC to Atlanta, which was a little over 3 hours.

Caden and Katherine really wanted to be good, but it is tough to be good for that long. Caden and Mommy had a good time playing games and helping Caden learn to tell time. Katherine, on the other hand, would get bored with each activity we tried to give here after 5 minutes (if we were lucky).

I found that as long as I had food to give Katherine she stayed happy enough to not start screaming or wiggling around too much. All in all, the flight to Atlanta was really good - we are pretty lucky to have good kids who do try hard to listen and obey.
During our 2 hour layover in Atlanta we got some food for everyone and then waited at our gate. Melissa went shopping with Katherine (in the stroller) and when she got back Katherine was asleep.

Now, my initial thought was, 'oh great, she is sleeping now, which means she will not sleep on the plane,' but she slept the whole time (even while taking her out of the stroller and boarding the plane). She finally woke up when we were landing.

The amazing part of the plane ride was that the boy in front of Katherine was screaming (hurting your ears screaming) for at least 5 minutes and she did not even budge. Caden also managed to sleep for most of the flight from Atlanta to Jacksonville.
Now we are at the Amelia Island Plantation resort and we are all hungry, so we are off to get some food. Stay tuned for the details of this trip!!

Ok I LOVE love love that you had a little preparation meeting for the flight. What a GREAT idea! That's so cute! You're so lucky. We fly to North Carolina with Londyn next month, and I am praying that she does well on the plane. She doesn't sleep well anywhere except for her crib, so wish me luck.
